Canyons School District - comprised of the municipalities of Cottonwood Heights, Sandy, Midvale, Alta and Draper - is the first school district in Utah to be created and named in Utah since 1918, when Daggett School District was formed.

Last November, voters decided to create a new school district in the southeast quadrant of the Salt Lake Valley. The new school district will begin offering services on July 1, 2009.
